ROCHESTER – Dorothy Marie Pokora Roy, 94, of Rochester, passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2024, peacefully in her sleep at home.
Dorothy was born on March 17, 1930, in Sangamon County, the daughter of Fred G. and Minnie (Ulm) Pokora. She married William T. Roy on September 28, 1952, in Springfield.
Dorothy worked at Pokora’s Grocery Store in Springfield in her younger years and later at Angelo’s Pizza, IDOT Food Service and at St. Joseph’s Home; however, more than that, she was a dedicated homemaker.
Dorothy was a loving and beloved wife, mother and grandmother. In retirement, she continued to enjoy working around the house and cooking many family-favorite dishes including pineapple pie and homemade noodles. She loved being with her family and was fond of many pet dogs. Her hobbies included reading and puzzle books.
Preceding Dorothy in death were her parents; her husband; brother Fred W. Pokora; sister Betty J. Gronewold and brother-in-law Dale E. Gronewold.
She is survived by her sons, Tom (wife, Samantha) Roy of Rochester and Steven (wife, Patricia) Roy of Rochester; twelve grandchildren/step grandchildren, Amy, Bethany, Ryan, Whitney, Haley, Jacob, Tracie, Zach, Remington, Charlyse, Matthew and Megan; ten great grandchildren/step great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Nora Pokora., a cousin, nieces, and nephews.
A graveside ceremony for the family was held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at Roselawn Memorial Park.
