Devora Dunn Obituary

Springfield — Devora Michelle Dunn, 70, of Springfield, Illinois, passed away Sunday, March 31, 2024, at her home in Springfield with family by her side. She was born September 28, 1953, at Homer G. Phillips Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of Robert and Maggie F. (Turner) Barnes. She married Roy R. Dunn Sr. on May 24, 1970, in East St. Louis, Illinois. Devora was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Freddie Barnes Sr. and John Anthony Barnes.

Devora was separated and estranged from her husband Roy Sr., for many years before he also preceded her in death in May 2020. 

She attended elementary and high school in East St. Louis, IL.  After relocating to Springfield, IL, she attended the Undergraduate School of Cosmetology. Devora remained a faithful member of the Holy City Missionary Baptist Church, in Springfield, even once her attendance stopped due to her declining health. Devora worked as a certified nursing assistant in several area nursing homes. She also worked in the hospitality department in several local hotels and restaurants. 

Devora loved Blues and Gospel music, spending time with her family, doing her puzzle books, and watching countless hours of Bar Rescue reruns.

She is survived by three daughters, Francine M. (Husband, Sherman) Mason, Shantel N. Smith and Teela D. Whyte, all of Springfield, IL; two sons, Roy R. (Fiancee, Sherrese Walker) Barnes Jr. of Springfield and Keeyn “Kenny” Dunn of Orlando, Florida; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; three sisters, Francine Barnes, Jacqueline “Jackie” Barnes both of Belleville, Illinois and Felicia Barnes-Gordon of St. Louis, Missouri; two brothers, Leon Barnes of Utah and LeRoy Barnes of Belleville; and several nieces and nephews, cousins, lifetime friends & acquaintances.    

Private family services and burial are planned. Senior Pastor Barrie West will be officiating. Interment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Springfield.
